I think that we ALL love playing games, whether it be a board game, online game, or an app on your smart phone or IPad. Below, I have listed some of my favorites for all of these categories that are great for both literacy and math!

TOP 5 LITERACY...
- Balderdash
- Balderdash is the classic game where bluffing your friends moves you closer to victory! Players must come up with their own definitions for weird words. The dealer has to decide which definition is the correct definition. If you trick the dealer, you get points.
- Scrabble
- Classic board game that forces students to create words out of letters that they have in their pile.
- Catch Phrase
- In this lightning-fast game of words and phrases, give as many clues as you can until someone on your team yells the word or phrase you want to hear. Gesture as much as you want, say anything you want. If the buzzer goes off while you're holding the disk, the other team gets the point!
- Boggle
- A small container holds 16 cubes, each cube marked with a different letter on each of its six sides. Give the container a good shake, and the cubes land within little pockets. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find as many words (of three-or-more letters) as you can--in three minutes.
- Taboo
- An obvious clue could be strictly Taboo. To get your team to say pinball, would you say arcade, game, flippers, tilt or roll? In this game you can not because all of those words are strictly Taboo. Rattle off clues while the time counts down.
- Spelling City
- VocabularySpellingCity.com is an online services that allows users to post and access word lists, practice for and take spelling and vocabulary tests, play spelling and vocabulary games, create printable games and share them with others.

same respective colors on the center Dutch piles while using as many
cards from your Blitz Pile as possible. When your Blitz Pile has been exhausted, you've won.
- Skip Bo
- Skip-Bo resembles speed (or spit) in the same way that Uno takes after crazy eights. Out of a 162-card deck, two to six players are each dealt 20-card "stockpiles"; the first one to deplete their pile wins. Competing either alone or in teams, players draw from a central pile and stack their cards sequentially onto one of four "build" piles (for example, an eight onto a seven, a three onto a two), using plentiful Skip-Bo wild cards to break up static situations.
- Phase 10
- From the makers of UNO comes a rummy-type card game with a challenging
and exciting twist. The object of the game is to be the first player to
complete 10 phases ranging from two sets of three, one run of seven,
seven cards of one color, and more. The twist is that each phase to be
completed is specific for each hand dealt. Those who complete the phase
advance to the next, but those that don't must try again.
- Qwuirkle
- An addictive strategy game in the tradition of Sequence, Scrabble, and Othello, the Qwirkle Board Game from MindWare has a simple, straightforward premise: match tiles and win points. But the real joy of the game lies in plotting and scheming your way to victory.

The mathematical puzzle allows users to play with different representations of numbers, while developing their number sense to create strategies to help them solve problems. There are two modes of play, solve and race, and two difficulty levels.
